Guidance
About the Guidance Program
Hello, I am Brenda Victor your school counselor.
I am returning to Merrill Road for my second year.
I have found this school to be very special and extremely caring
about its students.
I am proud to be member of the Merrill Road school family where
it’s truly
‘A Good Place to Grow’.
Today’s young people are living in an exciting time, with an
increasingly diverse society, new technologies and expanding
opportunities. To
help ensure that they are prepared to become the next generation
of parents, workers, leaders and citizens, every student needs
support, guidance and opportunities during childhood, a time of
rapid growth and change.
Children face unique and diverse challenges, both
personally and developmentally, that have an impact on academic
achievement.
I am here to address all students’
academic, personal/social, and developmental needs by designing,
implementing, evaluating, and enhancing a comprehensive school
counseling program that promotes and enhances student success.
In addition to providing age-appropriate guidance lessons, it is
my responsibility to provide culturally competent services to
students, parents/guardians, school staff, and the community
which consist of prevention and/or intervention activities to
meet students’ immediate and future needs.
These needs can be
necessitated by events and conditions in students’ lives and the
school climate and culture, and may require any of the
following, just to name a few:
Individual or group counseling
Consultation with parents, teachers, and other educators
Referrals to other school support services or community
resources
Intervention and advocacy at the systemic level
