Technology at Merrill Road is a vital tool to enhance learning. It is infused in many ways. All students will go to the computer lab once a week to build on what they are learning in the classroom. They will be working on basic skills within Word, PowerPoint, as well as a program called Kidspiration. Additionally, they will be creating projects to enhance Reading, Writing, Math, and Science. Photo Story is just one of the programs students will be working with. This is a free download that you can use at home, as well.

Another district-wide program that you can use with your child at home is Destination Success. It is aligned to all the learning standards for grades PreK-6th grade. The program can be used from any computer with internet so students can “play” at home. Directions to access Destination Success are below.

Another area of technology is our News studio. We have a group of children that not only work the cameras during live broadcasts, but they are also the Newscasters. These kids read from a teleprompter (they write their own scripts), use a blue screen when giving the weather forecast (just like the news on TV), and even help with some of the technical duties behind the scenes.

*SAVE THE DATE! October 15th at 6:00pm is our TECHNOLOGY, MATH, and SCIENCE NIGHT! You won’t want to miss this! We have a great time sharing how we use technology in the classroom, lab and studio. Families will get to be involved with hands-on science experiments and activities. We will have a guest speaker to open our night of excitement. More info will come out the first of October so be looking for it in your child’s folders!
